Square One Gallery is pleased to present "Reflections" - a presentation with Arlo Hotel Chicago on view through April 2025.
"The Arlo Living Room Gallery Series was created by Jasmine Arakel with the mission to bring contemporary art into publicly accessible spaces at Arlo Hotels. In partnership with Square One Gallery, we’re thrilled to exhibit works by self-described “painter and other things”, Sage Barnes. Their “Reflections” series will be on view for a limited time at Arlo Chicago." - Arlo Chicago
A self described “painter and sometimes other things”, Sage Barnes’s (American, b. 1995) work is characterized by his merging of abstract and street art techniques. Raised in Missouri, Sage studied at the FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) in Los Angeles for a time before leaving to pursue a career as an artist. First envisioned in 2022, Barnes’s “Blooms” series is rooted in application and methodology, seizing upon brief moments where time lends opportunities for observation and rumination.
"There's this point of reflection where you look back on events or memories and I think that's always important to process and realize where you currently are.” - Sage Barnes
The works invite the viewer to take an intimate glimpse into the artist's creative practice. The final “Reflections” begin with a lengthy process - painstakingly building layer on top of layer of resin, Barnes relies on precise application to accomplish his ultimate goal: a feeling of weightlessness and suspension.
“You're always in this final bloom of yourself in a way. Always changing and hopefully, it's for the better.” - Sage Barnes
