Overview

MuttoMatto, a self-taught artist born in 1986 in Russia, currently lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal. As MuttoMatto's artistic voice evolved, she became drawn to figurative art. Working exclusively with oil on canvas, she discovered a deep connection with the human form and its expressive potential. The artist was captivated by the ability of figurative art to convey a multitude of emotions, narratives of human existence. In her works, she goes beyond simple depiction of the human form, intentionally distorting it. By transforming humans into creatures, she creates a sense of freedom, moving away from the constraints of realism and delving into the nature of consciousness.

Her paintings evoke feelings of strangeness and intrigue, humor and anxiety, prompting viewers to contemplate their meaning and symbolism. Smooth lines and gentle color transitions create a sense of continuity and unity. The artist also explores the theme of simple forms and consciousness, blending human features with abstract elements, thereby transitioning from abstraction to figuration with elements of surrealism. In her works, MuttoMatto seeks to convey the complexity of human experience, creating images that appear simultaneously familiar and mysterious. She plays with viewers' perception and expectations, offering them new ways to perceive familiar forms. Her creativity represents a dialogue between traditional and contemporary approaches, reinterpreting figurative art through the lenses of abstraction and surrealism.
